Initiate your audio-editing program. If you downloaded a free audio editor, make sure to install it first.
Import the audio file into the program by dragging it, or importing the audio through your program. You will need to use an import command available through the "File" menu in most programs. The "Open" command doesn't typically important a file for you; it is reserved for opening project files on which you have previously worked.
Click, hold and drag your cursor around the silence in the audio you would like to remove. Select "Truncate Silence" or "Remove Silence" from the "Effects" menu. Some programs also allow you to select the entire file and automatically remove all instances of silence. You can set the duration threshold for determining how much silence must be present for the program to automatically remove it.
Confirm that you would like to remove the silence and select OK.
