How to Rip Audio CDs

You can rip audio CDs for free using audio programs that are already installed on your computer. For PC users, the most convenient choice for ripping an audio CD is Windows Media Player. For Mac users, the most convenient choice is iTunes.

Instructions

  1. Windows Media Player

      Insert an audio CD into your computer.

      Open Windows Media Player by clicking the "Start" button, selecting "Programs" and choosing "Windows Media Player."

      Select the "Rip" tab.

      Click "Start Rip" and Windows Media Player will proceed to rip the audio from your CD and save it onto your computer.

      Eject the audio CD from your computer when ripping has completed. Repeat the process for each audio CD you would like to rip.

    iTunes

      Open iTunes by clicking the "Finder," selecting "Applications" and choosing "iTunes."

      Insert the desired audio CD into your computer.

      Choose "Yes" from the prompt that appears asking if you'd like to import the audio CD into iTunes.

      Eject the audio CD from your computer after its files have been ripped and imported onto your computer. Repeat the process for each additional audio CD you would like to rip.
