How to Rip DVD Audio to MP3

There are several reasons you might want to rip a DVD clip to an MP3 file. Countless bands have released concert DVDs. Comedians often make DVDs of their stand-up routines. By ripping the audio from a DVD and converting it to an MP3, you can play it on your laptop, your digital music player and more. There are a few free software solutions that allow you to rip the audio from your DVD and convert it into a smaller, more portable MP3 file.

Instructions

      Open your web browser and navigate to the website of a free DVD to MP3 conversion tool. Several example applications are Free DVD MP3 Ripper, Free Video to MP3 Converter and DVD Audio Ripper (see Resources).

      Download and install the software by following the step-by-step instructions provided in the installation package.

      Start the DVD to MP3 conversion application by clicking "Start" > "All Programs" and selecting the application from its folder.

      Insert your DVD into the DVD drive of your computer.

      Select the source file you'd like to convert to an MP3 by clicking "Browse" and navigating to your DVD drive. Click once to highlight the file, then click "Open."

      Use the sliders under the video preview to choose the clip you'd like to convert. When finished, click "Convert", "Rip" or your software's variation of that.

      Name your MP3 file when the conversion is finished and save it to your desired location.
