How to Play Audio CDs Faster

If you're a disk jockey and want to mix your compact discs seamlessly, you need to know how to use the pitch-bend controller on a CD deck to get the tempo of the tracks you're playing synchronized. A CD deck with pitch control can also be useful if you're having a party at home and find the BPM, or beats per minute, of the track to which you're listening is too slow.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your CD deck to an amplifier or mixer with the RCA cable. Some CD decks are manufactured with an integral RCA connector cable. Consult your deck's user's manual if you're unsure how to do this.

    • 2

Plug in all of your equipment and make sure your amplifier and mixer are set to the correct channel to play back your CD.

    • 3

Insert your audio CD into the CD deck and set the pitch-bend control to "0."

    • 4

Play your audio CD and slowly raise the pitch-bend controller until the tempo of your track reaches the desired speed. Most CD decks come with a pitch-bend controller that offers scope to increase or decrease the speed of the original recording by 16 percent. More advanced devices will offer a wider range.
