Windows Media Player can automatically scan music files in its library and download missing information or fix incorrect tags. In the "Library" tab, select "More Options." Refer to the area titled "Automatic Media Information Updates For Files."
To begin the updating process, click on the "Retrieve Additional Information From The Internet" check-box. You're then presented with two options to fix MP3 tags and information. Select "Only Add Missing Information" to add the media information that's missing in your files. To overwrite all media information entirely, select "Overwrite All Media Information."
Apple's iTunes application can also retrieve data from the Internet to add to or replace your media information. iTunes uses Gracenote Media Database to determine a musical track's official name. Additionally, iTunes will add the official album artwork into a selected song.
To fix your library's music tags all at once, select all the songs in your iTunes library by pressing "CTRL" + "A" on your keyboard. Then right-click. Select "Get Track Names" to update and fix your track names, and select "Get Album Artwork" to update the artwork.
If your music library only has a few songs that need proper MP3 tags, it's possible to change them manually. If you've collected all of the official song information, including the song's title, artist, album, and track number, enter it into the song yourself. Right-click on the song, then select "Properties." Click on the "Details" tab. Insert the title, contributing artists, album, year and genre into the respective spaces provided. Select "Apply" at the bottom of the window to save all changes.
Third-party applications are a useful alternative for fixing MP3 tags and information outside of the media players. These applications can fix music tabs and songs, add album artwork, integrate with popular social networks and even adjust the sound equalizer.
