How to Fix a Corrupt WAV File

WAV files are used predominantly by Microsoft software users to record and store high-quality audio. Software malfunction, computer errors and anything that causes the computer to shut down in the middle of creating or editing a WAV file can cause that WAV file to become corrupted. Once corrupted, playing or editing the WAV file proves troublesome. WAV Saver, GoldWave audio editor and All Media Fixer are three programs available to fix corrupt WAV files.

Instructions

Download WAV Saver, a free program designed to recover corrupt WAV data. Once started, the program will read the WAV file and calculate the amount of data that can be recovered. WAV Saver will then create a new WAV file using the readable data from the corrupt WAV file. Click the "Select" button to select a corrupt WAV file, then click the "Destination" button to select a directory for the new WAV file. Click the "Repair" button to fix the corrupt WAV file.

Download and install the GoldWave audio editor. Run GoldWave and open the corrupt WAV file inside the GoldWave audio editor. GoldWave will try to open the corrupt WAV file and then allow the user to open the WAV file as a RAW file. Use the program's export tools to save a new version of the RAW file data.

Download and install All Media Fixer. All Media Fixer exists as a batch repair tool for WAV files and many other different types of media files. All Media Fixer aims to restore files that cannot be played on account of corruption. Run the program and click the "Add Media File" button to select the corrupted WAV file from the hard drive. Set the output destination by clicking the "Preferences" button, then highlight the WAV file in the main program screen and click the "Play" button at the top of the toolbar to begin fixing the corrupted WAV file.
