How to Record Audio to CDs to Play on Standard Audio CD Players

You can record audio to CDs that play on standard CD players by using your computer to burn these audio selections to recordable CDs. CD-R discs, or CD-Recordable discs, are compatible with most modern CD players, allowing you to create your own custom audio CDs and play them in your car stereo, home stereo, DVD player or computer.

  • Computer with CD burner
  • Blank CD-R discs

Instructions

  1. For PC Users

    • 1

      Click the "Start" button in your computer's taskbar, highlight "Programs" and open "Windows Media Player."

      Click the "Burn" tab inside of Windows Media Player.

      Drag the audio that you would like to record to CD onto the "Burn List" that appears inside the "Burn" tab.

      Click "Start Burn," and insert a blank CD-R into your computer when you have finished adding all audio to the "Burn List."

      Eject the CD-R from your computer when the CD has finished burning.

    For Mac Users

    • 6

      Click the "Finder" in your computer's toolbar. Use the "Finder" window to open the "Applications" folder.

      Double-click the "iTunes" icon within the "Applications" folder.

      Click "File" inside of iTunes and click "New Playlist."

      Name the new playlist that appears.

      Drag the audio that you would like to record to CD into the new playlist.

      Click "Start Burn," and then click "Burn." Insert a blank CD-R into your computer to initiate the burning process when prompted.

    • 12

      Eject the CD-R from your computer when the burning process is complete.
