How to Repair CDs With Toothpaste

If you have a scratched CD, you can often repair it with toothpaste. This is because the grainy texture of toothpaste is able to wear away the plastic surface of a CD and smooth out its scratches. Once the scratches are smoothed out, the CD will be able to be read by a CD player once again.

Instructions

    • 1

Squirt toothpaste onto a soft, clean cloth and rub it onto the scratched surface of the CD you want to repair.

    • 2

Begin applying pressure as you rub the cloth over the CD. The deeper the scratches on the surface of your CD, the longer you'll have to rub the toothpaste into the CD to repair it.

    • 3

Add more toothpaste to your cloth as needed during this process.

    • 4

Dampen another clean, soft cloth with rubbing alcohol after you have removed all the scratches from the CD.

    • 5

Clean the surface of the CD using this cloth and allow it to air dry.
