How to Repair a Bent CD

CDs can often warp if they become too hot. Because of this, it is often necessary to repair a bent CD in order to regain its ability to play. You can repair bent CDs by reheating the CD to the temperature at which it warped and then bending it back to its original form. This process can be completed at home with items you should be able to find in your house.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the disc using a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. This will remove any residue on the disc, which could damage the disc when attempting to repair it.

    • 2

Heat your disc to approximately 100 degrees F using your oven. Do not use a microwave oven to do so; this can damage both your microwave and the CD.

    • 3

Place the bent CD between two pieces of glass.

    • 4

Place several books on top of the pieces of glass to apply pressure to the bent CD. Make sure the discs are directly above the hole of the CD so the weight is distributed evenly.

    • 5

Allow the CD to sit between the glass panes for several days until it bends back to its original form.
