How to Convert an M4P File for Free

M4P files are protected files, which means that they can only be played on Apple products such as iTunes and iPods. However you might want to play the M4P files on other products. To do this you will need to convert your M4P files to another file format. The best file type to which to convert them is MP3 because this is the most universally supported file type. You are not able to carry out these conversion on iTunes, but there is a way around this.

  • Blank CD-Rs

Instructions

      Insert a blank CD-R into your computer's disc drive. Open iTunes by clicking the icon in your task bar.

      Go to "File," "New Playlist" and click and drag all the M4P files you want to convert into the playlist.

      Open the "Preference" menu, click the "Advanced" tab, then the "Burning" tab and then click "Audio CD" for the Disc Format. Click "OK," converting M4P files to audio CD removes the files' protection.

      Click the playlist you created and then click the "Burn Disc" tab at the bottom of the iTunes screen.

      Open the CD in iTunes once it has burned and click on the "Convert Selection to MP3" tab; iTunes will now import, convert and save your files to your computer.
