How to Convert M4As to WAVs

The WAV file was first introduced by Microsoft in 1991 as an audio file format. Although popular throughout the 1990s, recent times have seen it fall out of use due to its large file size. However, it is still supported by most audio software, and there may be occasion when you need to convert more modern file formats, such as M4A, into WAV. Thankfully, this can be done free and easily with the basic iTunes software.

Import the M4A file you wish to convert if it isn't already there. Right-click the name of the file you wish to convert in your iTunes library, then click "Create WAV Version" in the menu that pops up. iTunes automatically creates a WAV file version of the M4A you requested in the M4A's original parent folder. The WAV file automatically appears in your iTunes library and is available for immediate playback.
