How to Clear Music Off a CD

Music on a CD is written in the form of an MP3 or similar file. Any music disc can be cleared if it is a CD-RW (rewritable CD). Erasing music files on a rewritable disc is done the same way as removing files from a hard disk. You insert the disc, open it and delete any files that you do not want to remain. You are then free to reuse the space that you have freed to record music or save any other files to the disc as you wish.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the CD-RW into your computer's CD-ROM rewriter drive. A rewriter drive is standard equipment on most newer home and office computers.

    • 2

Open the list of files located on the disc. A prompt probably appears asking you whether you want to open or play your disc as soon as you insert it. If the prompt does not appear, select the drive letter corresponding to your CD rewriter drive from your list of drives and the list opens. (This usually appears by selecting "Computer" in Windows.)

    • 3

Click the titles of any songs or other musical presentations that you wish to erase. You can erase multiple songs by holding down the control key while clicking each title.

    • 4

Press the "Delete" key on your computer keyboard or click any "Delete" button that might be activated under or along the list of files.

    • 5

Wait until the process indicator shows that the files have been deleted. Check to make sure that no titles of files you had wished to delete remain on the list.

    • 6

Remove the disc from its drive. It can now be used again for any data storage purpose.
