How to Convert DAT to WAV Audio

DAT, or digital audio tape, was invented by Sony in the 1980s. It is a tape recording system, but as the name implies the audio signal is encoded in a digital format rather than analog. Converting DAT audio files to WAV preserves the quality of the original recordings faithfully, as WAV audio files are raw and uncompressed.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a free DAT to WAV converter software program. (See References.) Install the program.

    • 2

Launch the program. Click "Add Files" and navigate to the DAT files you want to convert.

    • 3

Click the DAT files, then click "Open." Select "to WAV" from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Click "Convert." Each DAT file selected will be converted to a WAV file. To combine several DAT files into one WAV file, click "Convert to One."
