Components of the Roland TD-3

The TD-3 is a percussion sound module produced by the Roland Corporation. It can be used in conjunction with Roland virtual drum sets. The TD-3 can mimic 32 drum kit arrangements, and 114 drum and percussion sounds can be produced by the kits. The wide array of options provides drummers and students the ability to practice various instruments without the high investment and space requirements.
  1. Coaching & Ambiance

    • The TD-3's built-in coaching feature provides lets users practice their skills in timing, speed and endurance. There are seven coaching parameters, including rhythmic notes, time check, quiet count and speed check. There are also counting functions, including count in, step up/down and gradual up/down. In addition to the coaching features, there are five different ambiance types that recreate natural, light and airy, warm and mellow, and warm and shallow room reverberation settings. The ambiance on each section can be adjusted to simulate rooms of different sizes.

    Connectors

    • The TD-3 has a variety of connectors located on each side of the module. There are nine trigger input jacks and one hi-hat control jack. There are two output jacks, right and left, which are designated R and L/MONO, respectively. The phone jacks and mix-in jack are stereo phone type; the sounds are equalized in all of the in-use outlets. The final connectors include the MIDI connector in both in and out mode.

    Dimensions

    • The TD-3 weighs 1 pound, 4 ounces. It is 8.7 inches wide, with a depth of 5.7 inches. Its height is 2.4 inches. The unit comes standard with an owner's manual, DC 9V AC adapter and four 5 mm by 8 mm screws. The TD-3 draws 1,000 mA during operation and provides an output impedance of 1.0 k ohms.

    Options

    • The TD-3 can be connected with a variety of drum accessories and mounts. The module interacts with the MDH-10U pad mount and PD series pads 6, 7, 8, 9, 80, 80R, 85, 100, 105, 120 and 125. Compatible stands include the 3C, 6, 8C, 10 and 20 from the MDS line. Cymbal mounts and hi-hat control pedals include the MDY-10U, FD-7 and FD-8. The cymbals include 6, 8, 12H, 12R/C, 14C and 15R from the CY line. Compatible kick triggers include the KD-7, KD-8, KD-80, KD-85 and KD-120.
