How to Sync MPC With Reason

Connecting your Akai MPC drum machine to your computer allows you to control audio software with the device. Synchronize your MPC with Propellerhead's Reason digital audio software to play the software's drum machine using the MPC. The procedure for synchronizing Reason with your Akai device is slightly different for each MPC model. Set up Reason for external sync, then follow the instructions for your specific model to synchronize your MPC with Reason.

Instructions

      Connect your MPC to your computer using the included MIDI cable. Launch Reason. Click "Edit," then "Preferences."

      Select "Advanced MIDI" from the "Page" drop-down menu. Click the drop-down menu next to "MIDI Clock Sync" and select the MIDI port to which your MPC is connected. Close the "Preferences" pop-up window.

      Click "Options," then "Sync." Click "MIDI Clock" to enable external MIDI syncing in Reason.

    MPC1000

      Press the "Mode" and "PAD 9" keys on the MPC 1000 simultaneously.

      Press the F2 key. Select the "Sync In" field using the cursor keys, then turn the data wheel to set it to "Off." Set "Sync Out" to "A" or "B," depending on which port you plugged the MIDI cable into.

      Press the "Play" button to sync the MPC with Reason.

    MPC500

      Press the "Mode" and "PAD 7" keys simultaneously to open the "MIDI Sync" menu.

      Turn the MPC500's wheel control until "Sync" appears on the screen.

      Press the "Down" key. Turn the wheel until "Master" displays on the screen. Press the "Play" key to sync the MPC500 to Reason.

    MPC5000 and MPC2500

      Press the "Mode" and "PAD 8" buttons simultaneously on the MPC5000; on the MPC2500, press "Mode" and "PAD 9." The "MIDI Sync" menu opens.

      Move the cursor to the "Sync Out" field using the cursor keys. Turn the wheel to select the MIDI port to which your computer is connected.

      Select "Mode" and turn the wheel to set it to "MIDI Clock." Highlight "MMC" with the cursor and use the wheel to change it to "On."

      Press the "Play" button to sync the MPC to your computer.
