Turn the DR-5 and the recorder off before making connections between them.
Connect a standard MIDI cable between the DR-5’s “MIDI In” port and the recorder’s “MIDI Out” port.
Connect a second standard MIDI cable between the DR-5’s “MIDI Out” port and the recorder’s “MIDI In” port. Turn on both devices.
Press the “MIDI” button while holding the “Shift Erase” button on the DR-5’s main panel. “MIDI” appears on the DR-5’s display.
Press the “<” and “>” buttons to scroll through the MIDI options until the screen reads “Sync.”
Turn the “Tempo/Data” knob to select the sync mode. “INT” syncs the recorder with the DR-5’s MIDI clock, making the DR-5 the MIDI master; “MIDI” syncs the DR-5 to the recorder’s MIDI clock. Select “MIDI” to sync the DR-5 to the recorder's MIDI clock.
Start the recorder’s MIDI clock transmission to start the DR-5’s playback. As long as the DR-5 is slaved to the recorder, you will not be able to control the timing or playback from the DR-5 – those parameters are disabled in this state. If you are using the DR-5 as MIDI master, pressing “Play” will trigger the MIDI clock and start the recorder.
