How to Have a Recorded File Played on an MP3 Player Playlist

One of the benefits of recording on a computer is that you can save the file in any format you wish. If you save it as an MP3, you can add it to your MP3 player playlist. Different MP3 players require different software for the transfer of files and the creation of playlists, but many are compatible with the M3U playlist file format. Some MP3 players allow the creation of playlists on the device, whereas others require you to create playlists on your computer first.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the recorded file in the program you used to record it.

    • 2

Save the file as an MP3. If you are using Audacity, you will need to install the LAME MP3 encoder plugin (see Resources).

    • 3

Connect your MP3 player to your computer's USB port.

    • 4

Open the program you use to transfer MP3s to your MP3 player. You may need to add the file to your library. This is the case if you are using iTunes. In iTunes, select "Add File to Library..." from the file drop-down menu.

    • 5

Create a new playlist or open an existing one. Depending on your MP3 player and software, you may need to do this on the device. In iTunes, you can create a playlist by selecting "New Playlist" in the drop-down menu. Many MP3 players recognize playlists saved in the M3U format. If you create an M3U playlist in a different program than the one you use to upload files, your player may still recognize it.

    • 6

Add the desired MP3 to your playlist.

    • 7

Transfer the MP3 to your MP3 player. This process should update the playlists on your device as well. If your MP3 player allows editing and creation of playlists on the device, you can continue to fine tune the MP3 playlist configuration on the device.
