Visit the cemetery during operating hours. The cemetery opens at 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends. In the winter it closes at 5:00 p.m. and during the summer it closes at 6:00 p.m.
Take the Metro to the east side of town. Get off at the Pere-Lachaise stop at the main gate of the cemetery.
Purchase a map outside the cemetery. It costs only a few euros, and since admission to the cemetery is free, it will be the only cost. The cemetery is nearly 30 acres, and the winding roads can be hard to maneuver, so a map is a necessity.
Follow l'Avenue Principale through the main gates. Turn right on l'Avenue du Puits and follow that for a while. Turn right on Ch. Serre, left on Ch. Maison and left on Ch. Lebrun. Jim Morrison's grave is on the right side. It is relatively small and inconspicuous but will not be hard to find since there is usually graffiti and people surrounding it.
Expect a crowd. Jim Morrison's grave is in a tight spot and there are often crowds of people gathered around. Patiently wait your turn to reach the graveside.
Leave the Jim Morrison grave as you found it. Many fans have been disrespectful enough to leave graffiti, drug paraphernalia, garbage and more at the grave site. Remember to be respectful of the nearby graves as well.
Experience the rest of the cemetery. It is beautifully Gothic, peaceful and romantic. There are many other famous residents to pay your respects to including Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Sarah Bernhardt and Frederic Chopin.
