How to Visit Jimmy Stewart's Grave

Of all the famous people buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, few remain as universally loved as Jimmy Stewart. From his first appearances in small roles in the 1930s, Jimmy came to epitomize the small-town virtues of honesty, courage and plain speech. Jimmy served his country with distinction during World War II, attended Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church for 40 years and received numerous awards for his humanitarian service.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a cab to 1712 South Glendale Avenue in Glendale, the street address of Forest Lawn Cemetery. The facility is open free to the public seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (later during the summer). Drive through Forest Lawn because the facility is much too large to walk through.

    • 2

Drive north past the lake and Administration building to the Wee Kirk O' the Heather Chapel. Keep driving to the top of the hill, where you will find a large monument of an archer bearing the word Taylor. Walk from here to Stewart's plot in space 2, lot 8, next to his wife Gloria.

    • 3

Visit other local landmarks associated with Stewart, such as nearby Griffith Park, where the annual Jimmy Stewart Relay Marathon begins. Find Stewart's star on the Walk of Fame at 1708 Vine Street, north of Hollywood Boulevard. You can visit the site where his tasteful Tudor house stood--918 N. Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills--but a later owner demolished the building.
