Figure out where on your house (or property) is the best place to mount the satellite dish. (See Tips for more information.)
Find a place on your house that is sturdy enough to hold the dish, or find the best spot to put up a sturdy pole or erect a structure that will be strong enough if you decide to go the “freestanding” route.
Unpack your kit, and figure out how many holes you have to drill to mount the dish onto the support, and where the holes need to go. (See Tips for more information.)
Drill the holes, then fill them up with caulk. This will keep water out of the system and will stop any leaks that may otherwise occur from the dish being mounted on the house.
Use the fastening devices that came with the kit (screws, nuts and bolts, whatever) to mount the satellite and its base securely.
Run a “test cable” from the satellite dish to any TV. You don’t need to worry right now about where the cable is going to go or where the TV will be, because you are only doing this to help you acquire the signal.
Make sure the TV can receive a signal (it is plugged, the cable is attached to it and something is showing on the screen).
Use the indicators that show up on the TV screen to help get your satellite dish into position so that it can pick up the satellite signals.
Run your cable permanently from the dish to the receiver once the signal has been received and you are satisfied with the reception. (See Warnings for other information.)
Set up your receiver, program the remote control and start enjoying your new satellite dish!
