How to Attach Satellite Dishes to Vinyl Siding

Although vinyl siding is not the ideal surface on which to attach a satellite dish, sometimes you have no choice. The dish must point in a certain direction and the side of your house may be the only location where it can receive a clear and unobstructed signal. When mounting a dish onto vinyl siding, it is important to make sure it also is secured to the wall surface behind the siding. Vinyl siding is not designed to support heavy objects by itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a spot on the siding where the dish will face in the right direction and the roof won't interfere.

    • 2

Place the mount of the satellite dish against the vinyl siding and mark where you will drill the pilot holes with a pencil. Drill the number of holes as required by the mount. Place the mount into place and secure it with bolts and a socket wrench. The bolts must reach far enough to go through the vinyl and become secured against the wall underneath the siding.

    • 3

Place sealant around each bolt to protect it from the weather, rust and corrosion.

    • 4

Place a J-pole in the middle of the mount. Move the J-pole so its top is on an angle that is level with the ground.

    • 5

Slide the dish onto the J-pole. Make any minor adjustments to the dish to make sure it's level. Secure the J-pole by tightening the bolt at its base.

    • 6

Check to ensure your satellite dish is receiving the proper signal. Make any adjustments to the way the satellite faces until the signal is clear and strong.

    • 7

Tighten the bolts on the back of the satellite dish to secure it in place on the mount.
