How to Install a Party Satellite Dish

Installation of a party satellite dish requires a great deal of fine tuning and patience. Once the dish is mounted in a safe spot, the satellite receiver must be used to correctly aim the dish both in regards to elevation (up/down orientation) and azimuth (left/right orientation). While this dish aiming can be tricky, the party satellite dish can be correctly installed in your home even if you lack any particular satellite knowledge or former installation experience.

Things You'll Need

  • Satellite receiver
  • Coaxial cable
  • A/V cable

Instructions

    • 1

Clear your prospective mounting area of any debris. Make sure the mounting area allows for a direct shot to the southern sky above, without any interference from trees, buildings or power lines, as this will harm your signal reception.

    • 2

Point your party satellite dish to the general southern sky above. This is not at all a precise aim, as precision adjustments will be made later. This directional aim will help save time later.

    • 3

Run the coaxial cable from the party satellite dish to your satellite receiver inside. The coaxial cable runs out of the back of the dish's mast and should connect into the back of the receiver via the "ANT IN" port.

    • 4

Connect the satellite receiver to your television. Accomplish this by utilizing the included, standard A/V cable that shipped with the receiver. This cable has a set of three prongs on either end, with each set consisting of one red, one white and one yellow prong. Notice that there are A/V ports both on the back of the receiver and the back of your TV that match the A/V cable's prongs. Plug each red prong into a red A/V port, each white prong into a white port, etc.

    • 5

Power on both the satellite receiver and the television. A menu will appear on the TV. Select the "Signal Meter Screen" option. The signal meter screen provides a reading as to how close your satellite dish is to being correctly pointed to the satellite above. Have a friend remain with the signal meter screen as you return to the dish outside.

    • 6

Use a wrench to loosen the elevation nuts on the back of the dish's mast. These nuts lie directly beside the elevation bolts. Once loosened, make slight up/down (elevation) adjustments to the dish, waiting five to 10 seconds after each adjustment for reports back from the signal meter screen. The screen will inform your friend as to how close you are to pointing your dish to the correct coordinates.

    • 7

Use a wrench to loosen the LNB dish arm nuts, which are located on the back of the dish's mast beside the elevation nuts. Make gradual left/right (azimuth) adjustments to the dish, again waiting five to 10 seconds for reports. Once the signal meter screen reports that all coordinates have been successfully reached, your party satellite dish installation is complete.
