Columbus, Georgia Television Stations

Five Columbus, Georgia television channels provide TV programming to viewers in the western Georgia and eastern Alabama. Columbus television stations' service area is split by two time zones, Central Standard Time in Alabama and Eastern Time Zone in Georgia. The ABC and CBS affiliates offer news programming catering to the EDT clock while the NBC affiliate broadcasts its news on the CST clock, providing viewers with news at both 10 and 11 p.m.
  1. WTVM-9, ABC

    • The ABC affiliate in Columbus, Georgia, WTVM-9, is known as "The News Leader" in the Columbus area. Going on the air on as WDAK-TV in October 1953, this station was the first to hit the airwaves in Columbus and was then jointly-owned by Allen Woodall, Sr. and Martin Theaters. Martin became the sole owner in 1956 and changed the station's call letters to WTVM-TV (for Television Martin). The channel also moved to VHF Channel 9 to allow the station to better serve a larger segment of the population in western Georgia and eastern Alabama.

      WTVM-9 broadcasts six newscasts a day in addition to two newscasts for sister stations WXTX-54, the local FOX affiliate.

    WRBL- 3, CBS

    • WRBL-3, the Columbus area's CBS affiliate, is owned by Media General and retains its original network affiliation from the time it went on the air. Broadcasting news programs in the morning and evenings at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. CST, the station is the second oldest in Columbus television station, going on the air a month after WTVM. Budget cuts in 2008 and 2009 resulted in the station downsizing its news division, cutting out the news broadcasts on the weekends, at noon and at 5 p.m. during those two years. The station broadcasts digitally on Channel 15.

    WLTZ-38, NBC

    • On the air since 1970, the NBC affiliate WLTZ broadcasts morning and nightly news broadcasts as well as popular syndicated broadcasting during the day. WLTZ caters to the Alabama side of its market which is in the Central Time Zone, an hour behind the Georgia side of the market, and maintains an Alabama bureau in Auburn. It also broadcasts news as The CW affiliate for the Columbus area. WLTZ broadcasts digitally on Channel 35.

    WXTX-54, Fox

    • Columbus's Fox affiliate, WXTX-4, has been on the air since 1983 and airs one news broadcast on weeknights at 10 p.m. with two other newscasts provided by ABC sister station, WTVM. The remainder of its programming includes syndicated and children's programming with paid programs, children's shows and sports populating weekend days. WXTX broadcasts digitally on Channel 49.

    WJSP-23, PBS

    • Columbus television station WJSP is a satellite station of WGTV Channel 8 in Atlanta, Georgia and broadcasts PBS programming. With its radio antenna and transmitter in Warm Spring, WJSP serves Columbus and the surrounding area in far east-central Alabama and west-central Georgia. Broadcasting since 1964, WJSP is one of only two stations owned by Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB).

      WJSP broadcasts digitally on Channel 28.
