KSWO-TV, broadcast on Channel 7, was established in 1953 and remains the only television station based in Lawton. The station was founded by five business executives and professionals: R.H. Drewry, J.R. Montgomery, T.R. Warkentin, Robert P. Scott, and G.G. Downing. KSWO-TV is locally owned and its coverage area includes Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas. It is a member of the Drewry Broadcast Group and is an affiliate of the ABC television network. Since February 2009, the station has featured digital-only broadcasts.
Based in Wichita Falls and serving Lawton is the CBS-affiliate KAUZ-TV. Broadcasting on Channel 6, KAUZ-TV features local news broadcasts and CBS Television programming. It also operates a digital channel affiliated with The CW. Like its sister station KSWO-TV, KAUZ-TV is a member of the Drewry Broadcast Group. The television station was the first to broadcast in the regional television market, beginning in 1953. KAUX-TV was also the first local station to broadcast in color.
Located in Wichita Falls, KJTL serves Lawton and started operations in 1985 as an independent station. In 1987, KJTL became a FOX television network affiliate, a year after the network began operations. Operated by the Nexstar Broadcasting Group under services agreements with Mission Broadcasting, KJTL with its sister station KFDX serve approximately 381,000 people in 16 counties in North Texas and Southwest Oklahoma. In addition to first-run and syndicated, KJTL broadcasts local news weeknights at 9 p.m..
KFDX-TV, a NBC affiliate in Wichita Falls broadcasts on Channel 3 and commenced operations on April 12, 1953. Broadcasting using digital technology, the station is owned and operated by Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc., which is affiliated with television stations in 14 states. KFDX serves the North Texas and Southwest Oklahoma market, including Lawton. KFDX's news programming includes weekday morning, afternoon, evening and prime-time news broadcasts, as well as reduced weekend news programing.
