How to Cancel Dish TV Service

Satellite television services provide programming no matter where the viewer may be, whether at home in the city, vacationing in a remote mountain cabin or while parked in a recreational vehicle. If the time arrives when the portability of satellite dish TV is no longer needed, the service must be canceled by contacting customer support of the network with whom the subscription was purchased.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at your current statement and identify your amount due for services, account identification number and customer service phone numbers listed on the front or back of that statement. The account identification number will be required when contacting your dish television provider via telephone or when accessing your account information via the company website.

    • 2

Check your bank account or credit card to see if enough funds are available to pay the final amount due. You may be asked to pay off the remaining balance in full before the service is discontinued.

    • 3

Call your satellite programming provider and speak with the Customer Service department. It may be possible that you will be transferred to a department which deals with account changes, depending upon which satellite provider you have had service with. The Dish Network and DirectTV are two of the major satellite service providers. To contact the Dish Network, call 1-888-686-2388 or "talk" to a representative through an online chat on the website (see the Resources section). For DirecTV, call 1-800-531-5000.

Provide your name, account number and any authentication information required by the representative. Ask to terminate your service at this time and follow the instructions provided to you.
