How to Find Anime Series by Description

Japanese animation -- "anime" for short -- is as varied as films, books and other TV shows. You can watch romance, comedy, mystery and action anime -- to name just a few. Some anime series are appropriate for children and others are just for adults. Search for anime series by description so that you don't waste time or money on a series that doesn't suit you. If you already have a general description of an anime series that you would like to see, you can use it to find a particular anime series.

Instructions

  1. Find a Description Method

    • 1

Assess your anime preferences. Think about the anime series you've enjoyed in the past. Compile a list of your most liked series. Write the genre(s) of anime that apply to these series, such as "action," "romance," "horror," "mystery," "slice of life" and "science fiction," to name a few. Each series may fall into multiple genre categories.

    • 2

Tally up how many times each genre appears on your list. Circle the genre that appears the most often. Search for series by description using this genre first. You can search by other genres later.

    • 3

Search for anime series by genre. Use an anime site such as Anime News Network, Crunchyroll or AnimeNfo to click on the genre of your choice. When you search by genre first, you won't waste time reading too many series descriptions.

    • 4

Read descriptions. Choose a title that falls under your chosen category and read the description. If you like the sound of the series, make a note of the series title.

    Have a Description Method

    • 5

Determine key terms. If you have either a vague or a detailed anime description but you can't quite remember the title of the anime series to which the description refers, determine your key terms. Write down character names, plot points, number of episodes or any other information you can remember. If the gist of what you can remember is simply something like "a boy turns into a girl when he gets wet," then write down the key words of the phrase, like "boy turns into girl when wet."

    • 6

Perform an Internet search with your key terms. Type character names, plot details or your vague description into an Internet search engine. You may see the anime title straightaway.

    • 7

Ask anime fans. If your description is too vague to reveal the title via an Internet search, ask anime fans. You can join an anime fan forum on the Internet at a place such as Anime News Network or you can search for anime fans in local clubs or at conventions. Chances are another fan can tell you the anime title even if your description is vague.
