Try to remember the name of the series. It's easier to figure out the name of an anime character if you know what series that they came from; it can provide a point of reference if you decide to ask someone for more information. Try remembering what day, month or year that you watched the anime. If you remember the name of the series or you still can't remember after retracing your steps, you can skip this step and head to Step 2.
Describe the character in an anime community forum. Online anime communities such as advancedanime.com and animenation.com have several anime fans that are also regular contributors to the forums. Simply create a new forum post within the forum describing the character in as much detail as possible and ask members if they know the character's name.
Double-check each response to see if it's accurate. You may get a variety of responses from the anime community. In order to be sure that the responses you've obtained are accurate, search the names that have been suggested using Google or another search engine. The search engine should generate pictures. Check the pictures that come up in the search results to be certain that it's the correct character. If not, continue to Step 4.
Search for DVDs. If you were unable to get the answer you needed from an online anime community, go to a website that sells anime DVDs and any bookstores or movie stores locally that may sell them. Search through the DVD database or selection until you find what you need.
