How to Visit Laurel and Hardy's Graves

The original dumb and dumber, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy set the standard for screen buddy comedy and remain beloved comedians even forty years after their deaths. Visit their graves the next time you are in the Los Angeles area, but remember to follow these directions. Otherwise, it will be another fine mess you've gotten us into.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Stan Laurel's grave at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery by taking a cab from your hotel to 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles. Tell the driver it is in the northwest corner of Griffith Park, just off the Ventura highway (134). Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills is open free to the public seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (later in the summer).

    • 2

Drive through the property, past Old North Church to the Court of Liberty. Laurel's grave is near a wall with a white plaque that reads: Stan Laurel, 1890-1965. A master of comedy, his genius in the art of humor brought gladness to the world he loved. Buster Keaton's grave is nearby.

    • 3

Go to nearby Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood. To get to 10621 Victory Boulevard, take North Buena Vista to West Victory Boulevard and turn left. The cemetery, on the right, before you pass Bob Hope Airport, is open to the public every day until dusk.

    • 4

Look for the Garden of Hope wall, curb marker 1069. Hardy's grave is near the center of the garden.
