How to Draw the Ewok Village

Luke, Han, and Leia may have taken the credit for defeating the Empire, but everyone knows that the real heroes of the Star Wars universe are the lovable little Ewoks. These adorable furry creatures inhabit the forest moon of Endor and have constructed their villages high above the tree tops. Star Wars fans can recreate this location in artwork of their own. Drawing an Ewok Village can be done by using the films and photos of Endor as inspiration while recreating the architecture of the Ewoks.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather together reference pictures of the Ewok Village. The village features both ground and tree huts, so expand your search to include every aspect that you wish to include in your drawing. Expand your search for additional art and photos of Endor, which will give you ideas for the background of your drawing.

    • 2

Draw three to five trees on your paper. Each tree is made up of two vertical lines that expand outwards near the top to represent the leaf cover provided to the village. Spread the trees apart on the paper so you have enough room to build off of each one.

    • 3

Draw an oblong circle around the center of each tree. This circle should extend beyond the trunk of the tree on both sides as it will be used as the walking platform for the Ewoks. Erase the top line of the shape between the two lines of the tree. You are giving the illusion the platform extends behind the tree.

    • 4

Place your pencil halfway between the left line of the tree and the far point of the platform. Draw a line upwards then bring it over to the right and down. Erase any lines that are within this newly created square.

    • 5

Create a dome over the the square. Draw the dome so that it extends its height is as least that of the square beneath. This it to be the huts for the Ewoks.

    • 6

Draw several slashes down on each dome so that the roof of the hut looks as if it is made of straw and branches. The more slashes the higher the detail will be. Finish off the outline of the hut by drawing a circle near the base, as this is the door to the abode.

    • 7

Repeat the creation of huts on your other trees. Leave some of the trees as just platforms. On the platform trees, draw additional platforms going up and down the trunk.

    • 8

Draw two parallel vertical lines connecting the platforms of the same tree. Fill the vertical lines with horizontal lines to create ladders.

    • 9

Connect the platforms of each tree with a horizontal line. Create short fences by spacing four to five vertical lines on the connecting line and then connecting them with an additional horizontal line. The fence should resemble a ladder that has been turned on its side.

    • 10

Draw several shorter trees beneath your Ewok Village. These trees should not extend past the lowest platform and are meant to show the height at which the Ewok Village has been built.

    • 11

Trace over your picture using a a black colored pencil or a black pen. Erase any extraneous lines so the picture looks clean and outlined.

    • 12

Color in the picture using colored pencils. The trees should be a mixture of greens and browns while the village itself should feature several shades of brown and tan. You can create darker and lighter areas by increasing or decreasing pressure to your colored pencils.
