How to Draw the Jersey Shore

Few destinations in the Northeast are as well known as the famous -- or infamous, depending on who you ask -- Jersey shore. New Jersey has 127 miles of coastline that are visited by millions of people every year. The variety of locations provides you with a plethora of material for drawing. From the raucous boardwalks of Seaside Heights to the relaxed beaches of Manasquan, your inspiration will seemingly be endless.

Instructions

    • 1

Select how you want to draw the Jersey shore. You can draw variations of historical portraits in books; visit the shore, take photographs and then create drawings based on these photos; or sit on the beach and draw your surroundings.

    • 2

Sketch the ocean. Waves crashing on the beaches of New Jersey is a beautiful scene. You can add families relaxing on blankets, couples walking their dogs (which is allowed at a few beaches) and children playing at the water's edge. You can also turn your back to the water and draw the dunes or the sea gulls and other shore wildlife.

    • 3

Draw the people. The Jersey shore is ideal for people watching, especially the boardwalks. Visit Wildwood or Point Pleasant Beach for inspiration.

    • 4

Draw a cartoonish outline of the state of New Jersey. Embellish the coastline. If you visit every shore point in the state (though it will take some time), you can add something to its approximate location in your drawing based on your experience.
