Imax Movie Theaters in Minnesota

IMAX movie theaters use special projection technology and cinema geometry to make projection on a much larger screen possible. Although IMAX movies originally were mostly documentaries, many types of movies now are released in IMAX format, including 3-D movies. The three types of IMAX theaters are dome theaters, where the film is projected on a dome above the audience; classic design theaters, which are movie theaters with a large screen; and multiplex theaters, which are housed in ordinary cinema complexes. In Minnesota, there are five IMAX theaters.
