Lakewood is an example of a city whose name is clearly drawn from its surroundings. Home to many lakes and parks, residents and visitors enjoy a number of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, hunting, bird watching and wildlife sighting. The city is also home to a number of restaurants, shopping malls and two chain, multi-screen movie theaters. The larger metropolis of Tacoma is only a short drive away and provides even more opportunities for live entertainment, river cruises, sporting events and additional movie theaters.
The AMC Loews Lakewood Towne Center 12 is located on Main Street in Lakewood and, as of February 2011, offered guests 13 movie options on 12 screens. All movies shown at the theater are displayed with digital projectors for crisp, clear images. Some pictures are screened in RealD 3D technology that provide three-dimensional screenings with comfortable glasses for guests to wear. As of February 2011, different pricing options were offered for adults, children, matinees and seniors with an additional charge for RealD 3D movies. Senior days and Student Days were held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively, with special pricing for seniors and students on those days.
The Regal Entertainment Group also has a theater in Lakewood, the Regal Lakewood Cinema 15, which features stadium-style seating and, as of February 2011, showed 15 movies on 15 screens including two shows in RealD 3D technology. Additional movies -- but not all shows -- were shown in digital projection. The theater is located on south 84th Street in Lakewood. Senior, adult and child ticket options were offered at this theater as of February 2011.
Tacoma is a large city with multiple movie theater options including chain theaters like the Galaxy Uptown and the Galaxy Narrows. The city also features independent, smaller theaters like the non-profit Grand Cinema. Also, the Blue Mouse Theater shows older movies as well as new releases and can be rented for special events. Special prices were offered, as of February 2011, at the theater on Mondays.
