Fun Places to Take Kids in California

California is one of the largest states in the U.S. and one of the most geographically diverse. Rivers, lakes, deserts, mountains and some of the world's most popular beaches are present in California. When planning a trip for your children, opt for one of the many attractions tailored to children throughout the state. Always choose destinations that leave a range of options of things to see or experience in case your children bore easily.
  1. San Diego Zoo

    • Visit the San Diego Zoo if your children are animal lovers. Home to over 4,000 rare and endangered animals, the San Diego Zoo has nearly a 100 year history of conservation and animal education. The Zoo offers behind the scenes tours where you can interact with the animals and watch the caretakers feed the animals. The behind the scenes tour also allows you access to the Zoo's botanical wildlife garden to experience at your leisure. The 100-acre zoo is located in Balboa Park just north of San Diego.

    Disneyland

    • It will be difficult for your children to run out of ideas for activities at Disneyland Resort where experiences range from thrilling adventures to musical concerts. Children of all ages will have access to games and attractions suitable to their interests. For example, in Animation Academy, a Disney artist teaches guests how the classic cartoon characters are created. The resort is divided between Disneyland Park and Disneyland California Adventure Park, with the Adventure Park having more experiences rides suitable for older children and teens. Disneyland Resort is located in Anaheim, California just south of Los Angeles.

    Yosemite National Park

    • Take your family snow skiing in Yosemite if you are planning a vacation during the winter months. The park's downhill skiing resort, Badger Pass, boasts being "unpretentious and affordable" for families who prefer a low-key ski resort experience. The park is beginner friendly with most of its ski tailored for beginner and intermediate skiers. You will also have access to 10 ice skating rinks in the park who provide 2.5 hour skating sessions. The season at Yosemite for winter sports is generally mid-December to late March. The resort is located in Northern California, about 200 miles East of San Francisco.
