How to Play Part of an AVI Preview

AVI files are containers that contain audio and video files. These can be created from any video that you have on your computer or on a optical disc like a DVD. All computers come with software that can play AVI files, but there are many other programs out there that can handle the AVI file type, along with many other video file types. You can use the native Windows Media Player or download a program (see Resources) to preview part of an AVI file.

• VLC
• Media Player Classic

     Navigate to the location of the AVI file that you would like to watch. Right-click the AVI file and click "Open With" from the small menu that appears.

     Select Windows Media Player from the list that appears. If you do have alternative media players installed on your computer, they will show up in this list as well.

     Use the seek slider on the bottom of the media player to locate the part of the AVI video file that you want to watch. Click on the "Play" button to begin watching.
