Open your editing program. A pop-up will appear. Choose "New Project." Another pop-up will appear. Select your destination folder to save your files. Name your project. Click "OK." Your new workspace will have a file bin window, a timeline where you will edit your files, and a television screen where you will view your video.
Click your file with your mouse in your file bin and drag it down to your timeline. Repeat for other MPG files in your file bin. Place each different file on its own layer in your timeline. Dragging your file and dropping it under your last video layer will automatically create a new layer.
Turn on your "Tools" window and "Effects" window. Click your "Window" tab and select "Tools." Turn on your "Effects" window by selecting "Effects."
Edit the files in your timeline by using your "Razor" tool to cut your files in your "Tools" window.
Click your "Razor" tool and click on your video to create a start point. Click on your video again to create an end point. Delete, move or add effects to your cut video.
Drag your cut video to the "Garbage Can" icon at the bottom of your timeline to delete. Move your video by clicking on it and placing it wherever you choose on your timeline.
Add effects to your video by clicking on and effect in your "Effects" window. You can add transitions such as fades, animations such as pinwheels, blinds or other animated effects, or audio effects such as changing the speed of your sound file.
Edit your audio layer if you have one by un-linking your video and audio on your timeline. Clicking on your video will automatically select your audio. Right-click either your video or audio and select "Unlink" from the drop down menu. Click on your audio layer and choose an effect to use. Raise or lower the volume by using the audio speakers window. The audio speakers window will appear automatically when you click on your audio. Skip this step if you do not have any audio.
Repeat the steps for other video and audio in your project.
Save your file.
Render your project to make your edits seamless. Click your "File" tab and select "Render Entire Workspace."
Save your file with a different name. Doing this will not write over your un-rendered file allowing you to edit your first file if you are not happy with your project.
