Open your editing program, such as Adobe Premiere Pro (see the Resources section). A pop-up will appear. Click "New Project." Another pop-up will appear appear.
Name your project. Select your destination folder where your project will save to. Click "OK" to accept the preset settings. Your workspace will have a file bin window, time line and television screen. Your file bin window will contain all of your project files. The time line is where you will edit your videos. Your screen is where you will view your videos.
Connect your RCA cables from the "Out" ports of your DVD player to the "In" ports of your computer. Your red and white cables are for the audio. Your yellow cable is for the video.
Connect your S-video cable in place of your yellow RCA cable, if one is available. S-video cables transfer a higher quality video image.
Start recording in your editing program. Click your "File" tab and select "Capture." Turn on your DVD player. Your video will appear on the screen.
Click the red "Circle" button to stop recording your video.
Turn off your DVD player.
Click on your recorded video file in your file bin window. Drag it down to your time line. This will put the video on a layer. A layer is one image on top of another.
Turn on your tools and effect windows. Click the "Window" tab and select "Tools." Click "Effects." Your tools window will appear as a pop-up window. Your effects will appear as a window next to your time line.
Click on your "Razor" tool in your "Tools" window.
Edit your video by clicking on it in your time line using your "Razor" tool to create a start point. Create an end point. Delete, move or add effects to your edited video.
Drag your edited video to the "Garbage Can" icon at the bottom of your time line to delete it, if you want to start over.
Move your edited video by dragging it with your mouse on your time line. Drag it to another layer on your time line by placing it under your current video layer. Another layer automatically will appear.
Add effects to your video by clicking on an effect in your effects window. Choose from transitions, such as fades, and animations, such as pinwheels, blinds or page turns.
Save your file when you are finished editing your video.
Import VOB files from your VIDEO_TS folder on your DVD disc.
Click on your "File" tab and select "Import." A pop-up will appear. Choose your VOB files. A VOB file contains the movie, audio, subtitles or menu contents of a DVD that are all put together as one or more files.
Click on your VOB files in your file bin window and drag them down to your time line.
Edit your files using the steps described in the first section above.
