For this trick, you will need a pen, a standard deck of playing cards and a loop of tape, with the sticky-side facing out, or a small bit of magician's wax. The tape or wax should be easily accessible, either under a table or on your finger. Ask an audience member to sign whatever card he or she wants and put the card on the bottom of the deck.
You will have to practice your sleight of hand movements so you can move the signed card from the bottom of the deck to the top without the audience noticing. Stick the tape or wax on the back of the card and, holding the deck parallel to the ceiling, throw all the cards up as hard as possible. The signed card should stick to the ceiling, while the others fall.
You need a coin, preferably a quarter, although any coin will do, and some skill distracting the audience. Magicians need to develop the ability to put the audience at ease with jokes and witty repartee in order to shift the focus from their hands. Ask for a volunteer from the crowd and tell them that, if someone can grab the coin at the count of three, that person can keep it.
Hold your hand with the coin above your head and position the assistant's hand between the top of your head and your hand. Make sure the assistant's hand is open and palm up. Count one, touching the coin to the assistant's palm, count two, touching hands again. Before you say three, release the coin on top of your head and touch the assistant's palm again.
This trick is a great way to make a few dollars at the bar. You will need a dollar bill, any denomination, and an empty beer bottle. Put the money on the bar or table and place the bottle upside-down on top. Bet the crowd that you can remove the bill without touching the bottle and, if you do it, you keep the money or get a free drink. Invite people to try it themselves before you do. Most bar patrons will try to pull the bill out as quickly as possible, but it won't work if there's any moisture on the table. When it's your turn, roll the bill slowly until it curls out from underneath the beer bottle.
Cool as Ice is a great party trick that requires only a little preparation. You need a cup that you cannot see through, a sponge, an ice cube and a little bit of water. Get the audience's attention, claiming you can put an ice cube and water in the cup and make just the water disappear. If your good at misdirection, you can get the group's attention off you long enough to slip the sponge into your cup. Pop the ice in and pour about an ounce of water on top. You can shake the cup or wave your hand over it before dumping out the ice cube. If the cup is plastic, you might want to throw it out before anyone tries to get a look at it.
