Take two sheets of blank A4 paper and cut each sheet into 10 equal segments. Write ten different animals on the first ten segments and ten colors on the other 10 segments. Put them in a pile, face up, alternating between colors and animals.
Make a mental note of the bottom two segments. One should contain a color, and another should contain an animal. As an example, let's pretend that the bottom segment says "Giraffe" and the next from the bottom says ''Purple."
Hand the segments to your spectator face down, and ask her to deal the segments out in a pile. It is important that the segments are dealt face down. Ostensibly this is to prevent anyone seeing which segments are dealt, but the real reason for handing her the segments face down is to ensure that the "Purple" and "Giraffe" segments will be the first two dealt onto the table. If they were on the bottom at the very start of the trick, they'll be on the top once the deck is turned face down. Tell her to stop whenever she feels like it.
Pick up the pile and get rid of the segments that weren't dealt. Hand the pile to your spectator and ask her to deal the segments again face down, this time into two piles, one on the left and one on the right. Make sure she knows to deal one card to the left, and then one to the right, and then another to the left, and so on.
Turn away, and tell your spectator to look at the top segment on each pile. Due to the specific deal used, the top two segments will say "Purple" and "Giraffe." This is because they were the first two cards dealt in the first round, so they will be the last two cards dealt in this round. Without turning around, tell your spectator to "beam" this mental image over to you. At this point, you can take things in different directions. You can tell her she is thinking of a purple giraffe, or you can draw a purple giraffe yourself. Either way, the effect will be a clean mind read, which can be easily repeated.
Take four identical coins; hide one in your right hand and spread the other three on a table.
Invite your spectator to examine the coins to ensure that they are not rigged or gimmicked in any way.
Pick up the first coin between the index finger and thumb of your right hand. Then make a show of throwing it into your left hand.
Pick up the second coin in the same way, but this time throw both the second coin and the hidden coin into your left hand. Immediately make a fist around the three coins. As far as your spectator is concerned, there are only two coins in your left hand, when in fact there are now three.
Pick up the third coin and pretend to put it in your jacket pocket, but instead secretly hold it in your right hand. Tell your spectator that you will make the coin jump from your pocket into your left hand. Give your hand a shake and then spread the three coins out on the table. Show your empty left hand and invite the spectator to reach into your jacket pocket. While she is doing this, transfer the fourth coin from your right hand to your left hand and place it in your left jacket pocket.
