In Pokemon Platinum in the cave how do you get grunt to move?

In Pokemon Platinum, the grunt in the cave can be moved by interacting with the switch located near him. Once activated, the switch powers a device that clears the rocks preventing his passage, enabling him to make way further into the cave.
