American version
The American Wheel of Fortune is 24 feet (7.3 m) in diameter and weighs 2,500 pounds (1,100 kg). It is made of steel and has 24 wedge-shaped sections, each with a different prize or amount of money. The wheel is spun by a motor, and when it stops, the contestant who has guessed the correct letter closest to the arrow wins the prize or amount of money displayed on the section the arrow is pointing to.
British version
The British Wheel of Fortune is 16 feet (4.9 m) in diameter and weighs 1,500 pounds (680 kg). It is also made of steel, but it has only 23 wedge-shaped sections, with a different prize or amount of money displayed on each section. The wheel is spun by hand by the host of the show, and the contestant who has guessed the correct letter or phrase wins the prize or amount of money displayed on the section the pointer is pointing to.
