How to Do Samba Hip Actions
If you ask anyone that dances the samba in Brazil (and most people do) what the key is to getting that great hip action they will tell you that its all in the knees. At first this may seem difficult to understand, but the truth is that samba just as in most Latin music distinguishes itself by the hip movement.Samba specialists say that the Latin hip movement is more than just a movement in the hips, it is really movement that comes from the whole body from the tips of your toes and can be felt all the way through the tips of your fingers. As an observer we tend to notice the movement of the hips, but it is usually because of action produced from another part of the body which helps produce the hip movement, in this case its in the knees. And usually when you tell a learner that he is going to learn the right knee movement, instead of hip movement, he tends to relax a bit. The following tips will help you acquire that needed hip movement.

1
Move just the hips, legs and knees. The biggest mistake people make when trying to learn the right hip movement is to move the entire body in the direction the hip takes instead of separating the hip from the back, so when you use the right knee movement, you will automatically get the right hip movement.

2
Bend and straighten knees. So to get the hip action you need to bend one knew while keeping the other straight, and this will give you a forward hip movement.

-
3
Keep shoulders straight. While bending and straightening your knees you need to keep your shoulders horizontal and straight.
-
4
Move those hips. Then move your hips clockwise.
-
5
Exercise for hip movement. A good exercise you can do to get those hips moving the way they should is the age old “hoolah Hoop”

6
Understand the way your hips should move! When you use the hoolah hoop you will better be able to see how the movement of your hips should work.
