How to Go to a Hip Hop Concert

Concerts are a great way to see how artists perform outside the constraints of a recording studio. Hip Hop artists bring a whole new level of audience participation into their performances. Often, the audience has a role to play that determines the energy level the concert achieves.

Instructions

    • 1

Get there early. Hip Hop fans are serious about the music. Be the first in line for the inside scoop on after parties and getting a glimpse of artist rehearsal.

    • 2

Dress comfortably. Most Hip Hop concerts are standing room only. It is not uncommon for concerts to be packed to legal capacity. Expect to be standing for the majority, if not all, of the concert.

    • 3

Stay hydrated. The sweat will pour, and you'll get hot. Having water on hand will avoid an embarrassing fainting spell. Remember, alcohol dehydrates the body, so lay off the hard stuff.

    • 4

Loosen up. The crowd will definitely get loud and pushy. Don't expect everything to transpire in an orderly fashion. Many fans are relieving stress and looking to get wild. Go with the flow and yell the chorus with everyone else.

    • 5

Enjoy all aspects of the night. Hip Hop is a mirror to the world. Just like the world, it has happy and sad feelings to express. Whether it's The Roots, Eric B., Big Daddy Kane or Talib Kweli, the artist's ultimate goal is to affect his or her fans.
