How to Dress for Samba Dancing

The Samba is a carnival dance requiring a couple and performed on an 8 count. It originated in Brazil and is accepted world wide as a dance that oozes passion and heat. The dance is still performed during carnival and is also danced on the competition dance circuit. There are many variations of the Samba today and all of them have the same thing in common: the costumes.

  1. Dressing for the Samba

      Dressing for the dance includes wearing a costume that consists of a bra top (or sports bra for support) that is brightly colored. Traditionally, red or orange are the choices most choose. The bra is trimmed with see through ruffles of the same the color that wave over the breast to accentuate and enhance curves.

      Wear a thong of the same color.

      Accentuate the hips by wearing a very short dress. Hip movement is an integral part of the dance. The dress is covered with sequins and sometimes there feathers placed on the buttocks.

      Top the outfit with a head-dress, which is normally worn during carnival and are tall, vibrant and covered with feathers.
