Watch BET, VH1 or MTV hip-hop videos, or movies about hip-hop dance, to see different moves and decide which ones you like. Practice the moves and make them your own.
Wear comfortable sneakers. Hip-hop began on the streets of New York and other large U.S. cities, and wearing street shoes pays homage to the dance style and will protect your feet at crowded venues.
Warm up before the concert with a quick stretch to avoid injury.
Step back and forth to the music's beat, using your hips and arms to mark the beat, as seen in the movie Hitch, where Will Smith's character instructs Kevin James' character on dancing at a club. Your arms should be slightly bent and within 6 inches of your body.
Keep your feet planted on the floor, if the concert venue is too crowded to move, and use upper body popping of the chest or shoulders to move to the music.
Put your hands in the air during appropriate times (watch fellow concert dancers) and mark the beat by raising your arms straight into the air and then back down to a slight bend in the elbow.
