How to Hold a Woman When Slow Dancing

Correct technique is essential to a successful slow dance. Whether you and your partner are one of many couples on the dance floor, or all eyes are on the two of you, it's important to hold a woman correctly. This is respectful and shows confidence. As well, being a good dancer earns you admiration from the woman and others who are watching. Once the DJ or band has started a slow song and you've found a partner, you're ready to begin slow dancing.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand close to the woman, such as three to six inches away from her. You can increase or decrease this distance based on your relationship with the woman and what feels comfortable for the two of you.

    • 2

Position your right hand on the small of her back.

    • 3

Position your left elbow near your side with your left arm angled upright, creating a bend in your elbow. Using your left hand, hold her right hand.

    • 4

Move in a clockwise manner, using your right foot like an anchor. Your movements should coincide with the speed of the music, which for a slow dance will obviously be slow.

    • 5

Make eye contact with the woman while dancing with her. While you don't want to stare at her in a creepy fashion, frequently looking around the dance floor and avoiding eye contact makes her feel unwanted, and is disrespectful.
