How to Do the Perculator

The percolator is a dance that can be seen in several dance clubs. The movements for the dance are meant to be performed rapidly, to simulate a coffee percolator. The steps to the dance are basic; however, to get the arm and leg coordination down involves some dexterity. You do not need a large amount of space to perform the dance moves, although open space away from walls is ideal.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on a fast-paced song. This dance is meant to get your body moving; music with a fast tempo will inspire you to move rapidly. Try the song "It's Time for the Percolator," if you are unsure of a music selection.

    • 2

Turn to your side. Put your arms out in front of you, as if you are going to give someone a large hug.

    • 3

Bring your body weight forward. Balance on the balls of your feet without lifting your heels.

    • 4

Swing your knees together. Stop your knees just before they join together; this will cause your heels to rotate out. Rotate your knees out. Your toes will turn to face out as well.

    • 5

Repeat the two actions quickly. Swing your knees back and forth, while turning your toes in and out in fluid motions.

    • 6

Bend your arms to make "robotic" movements. Bring your arms up and down in 90-degree angles, while doing leg movements.
