Grasp a feel for the pageant style. Attend the prior year’s pageant or interview a past contestant. Watch the previous year’s pageant on videotape. Discover if the judges expect to see contestants naturally made up in trendy outfits or theatrically made up in sequined ensembles. Observe the modeling style. It may be natural with subtle turns and graceful walking or pro-am style, which includes fancy turns and dance moves.
Read the pageant guidelines, carefully noting details. Highlight and remember the time limits. This is a crucial step. Determine the percentage of possible points from the modeling competition that go toward the overall pageant score.
Select an outfit that agrees with pageant protocol and modeling style. Shop for an eye-catching outfit that shows well on stage but isn’t overly costumey. Decide if a prop is appropriate. When in doubt, leave the prop out.
Listen to numerous musical selections for a tune that enhances your modeling outfit and speaks to your personality. Consider tunes that remind others of you. If the rules state that house music will play rather than personal selections, practice with numerous songs with varying beats. Demonstrate that you can perform your routine with expertise regardless of the music.
Practice endlessly. Weed out the flaws and smooth out the glitches. Ask a friend to critique your routine, or hire a pageant coach. Practice in the shoes you intend to wear at the pageant. Learn how to move in them with ease. Polish your facial expression as well as your physical movement. Convince onlookers that your act is effortless.
Double check your timing and that you are staying within the time limit. Avoid risking disqualification after all your hard work.
