How to Write an Essay for a Beauty Pageant

Writing an essay for a pageant competition is a lot like writing for a school essay. At first, you may draw a blank, but once you choose a topic that you are passionate about, the creative juices will flow. Stick to the general topic while giving it a personal touch. Show the judges how the topic relates to you, what it means to you and how you will apply the concept if you should win the pageant title.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the topic for your age division. Read the essay competition rules carefully, noting the length of the essay in pages or word count.

    • 2

Give the topic some thought. Authors Gen and Kelly Tanabe at Super College suggest giving judges a "slice of life." Figure out how the topic has affected your life or will affect it in the future. Research it in great depth so that you can elaborate on it effectively. Take a stance on the issue, and support it with facts and relevant information.

    • 3

Open with a great quote or attention-grabbing statement. The introductory paragraph should lead into the discussion that follows in the body of the paper. A strong thesis sentence gives the reader a road map of where the rest of the essay leads.

    • 4

Use the body of the essay to explain the details. This is the place to expound on the depth of your knowledge. Reveal your character, personality and goals through your message. Cover the who, what, where, when, why and how of the topic.

    • 5

Wrap up the overall concepts in the concluding paragraph. The concluding sentence is as important as the opening sentence.

    • 6

Finish your essay by double checking the required length or word count. Make sure your essay is double spaced. Check spelling and grammar. Include your name, age division and date on the essay.
