Inspect the sub-floor of the area where the dance flooring is to be installed. Check for any loose nails, screws, staples, carpet tacks, etc. Using hammer and screwdriver, remove all protrusions.
Determine the dimensions of the planned installation area using your tape measure. Always measure twice for safety. Dance flooring is typically manufactured in 6' by 60' rolls, so plan to cover the space using 6' strips cut to fit.
Unroll your dance flooring on a flat surface and mark measurements for the first strip of flooring on both sides of the roll. Place a chalk line across your two markings and snap it to give a straight line.
Cut your flooring along your chalk line, using a straight edge and matte knife. Move onto the next 6'-wide strip, measuring length on both sides, snapping the chalk line, and cutting to size. Repeat the measuring and cutting procedure until enough Marley is cut to cover the entire surface.
Place your strips of Marley onto the installation area, assuring that all edges line up and leaving a small gap between each strip (traditionally 1/8"). Let floor sit for at least 24 hours to allow wrinkles to relax as the vinyl comes to room temperature.
Tape over gaps in between Marley strips using floor tape. Begin on one side of the room and work across to ensure proper alignment. Finally, tape the perimeter of the Marley to the surrounding floor.
