Newark, the biggest city in New Jersey, is on Newark Bay just a few miles from New York City. It is home to the New Jersey Devils hockey team, several museums, a zoo, and has more than 6,000 acres of open space dedicated as parks for outdoor recreation. Newark is not just about being and enjoying outdoors. The city has a very active nightlife and plenty of dance clubs for those looking to party.

    • The Atmosphere Bar and Lounge is spacious, open, and has a sophisticated and elegant décor. Patrons can relax on chairs, oversized sofas and giant ottomans. There's plenty of room to dance to the latest hit songs played on the club's state-of-the-art sound system. There is also a state-of-the-art light show to dazzle club goers. The Atmosphere Bar and Lounge is open five days a week. The bar is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon until 7 p.m. The club itself opens at 9 p.m. and closes at 3 a.m. every Thursday through Saturday. Guests must be at least 25 to enter the club and they will not be allowed entrance while wearing T-shirts or sneakers.

    XL Lounge

    • XL Lounge bills itself as an elite club that offers a variety of music including house, hip-hop and Latin. It has a huge dance floor and a DJ booth that is raised to look out over the dance floor. The light system includes strobe and laser lights as well as four rotating heads. Special events nights are common and include themes such as retro flashback and samba Latin lounge. XL Lounge is open from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday through Sunday for those 21 and up.

    QXTs

    • QXTs has been operating in Newark for 20 years. DJs play a mix of music including 80s, new wave, punk, alternative and rock. Because QXTs is an alternative dance club, patrons will also hear gothic, deathrock and dark wave music. QXTs has a main dance floor and two rooms with separate dance areas, bars and music. The club's alternative themes include special events such as a latex fashion show and fetish social. OXTs is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Patrons must be at least 18 years old to enter the club and 21 years old to drink. Before 11 p.m., ladies over 21 get in free and some drinks are discounted.
